Privacy policy

Draft for review. This text will be checked by a lawyer before the apps launch.
This policy explains what personal data the teeSide golfer app, the teeSide Club Portal and this website collect, why, who can see it, and the choices you have. teeSide is operated by [operator to be confirmed] ("we"), the data controller under Kenya's Data Protection Act, 2019.
What we collect
When you create an account
- Phone number, to sign you in with a one-time code.
- Profile: your name, and if you choose to add them: gender, handicap, a short bio, a profile photo, your Primary Club and playing preferences (game type, pace, walking or buggy).
When you use the app
- Availability you post (club, date, times, a note).
- Requests and rounds: game requests you send or receive, rounds you post or ask to join, and their outcome.
- Messages you send in chats.
- Club verification requests, including an optional member number, which your Primary Club sees.
- Rounds played: your own answer to "Did you play?" after a game.
- Safety: golfers you block, and reports you make.
- Notification token for your device, so we can send you push notifications.
We do not collect your location, contacts, or payment details, and we do not use advertising trackers.
Who can see what
- Other signed-in golfers can see your profile (name, photo, handicap, club, preferences, verification badges and rounds played) and any availability or rounds you post.
- Your phone number is shown only to golfers you have agreed to play with: the other golfer in an accepted game, or the organiser and players in a round you have joined. It is never shown in search or on your profile.
- Messages are seen only by the people in that chat.
- Your Primary Club's administrators see the verification requests you send them, and the result.
- Our team can access data to run the service, verify members for clubs without an administrator, and handle reports and abuse.
- Golfers you block cannot find you or contact you, and are not told.
Why we use it
- To provide the service you asked for: matching golfers, rounds, chat and club verification (performance of our contract with you).
- To keep the community safe: suspending accounts and acting on reports (legitimate interest).
- To send notifications you can switch off in your phone's settings (consent).
We do not sell your personal data.
Service providers and where data is stored
We use these providers to run teeSide. They process data only on our instructions.
- Supabase: database, sign-in, file storage and real-time chat. Data is stored in Frankfurt, Germany (European Union).
- Cloudflare: hosting for this website and the Club Portal.
- Expo, Google Firebase Cloud Messaging and Apple Push Notification service: delivering push notifications.
- An SMS provider, to send sign-in codes.
Because our database is in the European Union, your data is transferred outside Kenya. We rely on providers that offer safeguards for personal data comparable to those required by the Data Protection Act, 2019.
How long we keep it
We keep your data while your account is open. When you delete your account, your profile, phone number, photo, availability, requests, posted rounds, connections, messages, verification records and blocks are deleted. Messages you sent are removed from the other golfer's chat too.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit. Access is controlled in the database itself, so each person can only read what this policy says they can, whatever app they use. Profile photos are private to signed-in golfers.
Your rights
Under the Data Protection Act, 2019 you have the right to:
- be informed about how your data is used (this policy);
- access the personal data we hold about you;
- correct inaccurate data (most of it you can edit in the app);
- have your data deleted (see Delete your account);
- object to processing, and to have your data provided in a portable format.
To exercise these rights, contact us at [support email to be confirmed]. If you are not satisfied with our answer, you can complain to the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner (ODPC), Kenya.
Age
teeSide is for golfers aged 18 and over.
Changes
We will update this page if our practices change, and tell you in the app about significant changes.
